Until recently, typical serial transmission could not be done above 1.2GHz, forcing a tradeoff in either the speed of an ADC, or its resolution. The JESD204 specification for data converters has enabled Analog Devices to develop a family of 16-bit high-performance serial ADCs that communicate at data rates of up to 2.1Gbps. The LTC2274 is a JESD204 compliant, 16-bit 105Msps ADC that uses just two wires for data communication to an FPGA or ASIC, compared to a parallel interface which may use 16 CMOS or 32 LVDS lines for data transfer.
