LT2940-Slide6

The following pages will highlight some unique circuits that address applications that may not have been thought of. In the first application, the LT2940 pulse width modulates the N-channel FET, Q1, to produce a regulated 12.5W dissipation. To set this value, R4 is tied to the PMON output pin and provides feedback to the positive comparator input. The heat source can just as easily be linearly regulated (not pulsed) with a slightly different circuit configuration. This circuit is useful for testing heatsinks and cooling systems, as well as industrial process control. In the second application, the LT2940 measures power in a 28V system and converts it to frequency. Here, the PMON output of the LT2940 is fed into the LTC1440 comparator, which provides precision hysteresis and a predictable output frequency, which in turn facilitates isolation in ruggedized applications.
