New Product Discoveries - Microchip's SAMA5D27 System on Module and MPLAB PICkit4
Today’s New Product Discoveries includes products exclusively from Microchip Technology. Microchip is well known as a microcontroller company. The product we will talk about today puts them one step ahead of the curve by continuing their long history of providing cost-effective ways for developing with their PIC and dsPIC products.
The first product I have is the SAMA5D27 System on Module (SoM). A SoM is essentially an entire computer system on one chip. What controls this computer system? The brain of this module is a 32-bit ARM Cortex-A5 Processor. Supporting that is one Gigabit of DDR2 SDRAM capable of running at 500 MHz. Additionally, within the SoM is a free Linux distribution as well as some bare metal C code examples.
The SAMA5D27 allows you to streamline your end product by way of simply soldering the SoM to your board – embedding a complete computer system within your design. Your design then reaps the benefits of Microchip’s expert circuit design for optimal operation in whichever application you are focused.
Digi-Key carries a development board for the SAMA5D27 module, part number ATSAMA5D27-SOM-EK1, which incorporates said module with Ethernet, an SD memory card, and Click Board mikroBUS integration to evaluate a wide array of sensor modules from MikroElekronika.
Additionally, Microchip continues to drive down the cost of in-circuit development with their latest installment to the PICkit series. The MPLAB PICkit 4 supports in-circuit debugging and programming of their PIC, dsPIC, and encrypted devices. Not only does the PICkit 4 program faster than previous versions, it supports advanced interfaces such as 4-wire JTAG and Serial Wire Debug with streaming Data Gateway while still being backwards compatible for systems using 2-wire JTAG and ICSP. The PICkit 4 gives you the ability to take your code and program virtually anywhere you go.
