RFX Group's OCXO provides ultra-low phase noise performance down to -178 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz

Image of RFX's Ultra-Low Phase Noise OS560-10 Series OCXO Housed in a 25.4 mm x 22 mm package with a height of only 10.5 mm, RFX Group's OS560-10 series oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) is available in a wide frequency range from 1 MHz to 150 MHz. Incorporating an optimized control and heating circuit design, the OS560-10 can be specified with a temperature stability of ±20 ppb over -40°C to +70°C, ±10 ppb over -20°C to +70°C, or ±5 ppb over 0°C to +50°C. To increase suitability across a wide range of applications, either CMOS or sine wave output compatibility can be specified.

The OS560-10 can operate at 3.3 V, 5 V, or 12 VDC supply voltage depending on customer requirements, and it incorporates an electronic trim option of ±0.5 ppm minimum (2.25 ±2.25 VDC). Long-term aging is ±50 ppb maximum per year after 30 days of continuous operation, while short-term aging over 30 days is ±0.1 ppb maximum per day.

Digital systems are affected by phase noise in the time domain as jitter, and the lower the phase noise, the lower the jitter. Communication systems see the effect of phase noise in signal bandwidth with lower phase noise resulting in lower bandwidth requirements, which in turn can affect channel width. Furthermore, high-performance radar systems rely on the detection of extremely faint return signals from the target, and the lower the phase noise, the sharper the return and greater the range. The OS560-10 utilizes an SC-cut crystal optimized for low noise, which alongside other design characteristics gives far-out phase noise down to -178 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz and close-in phase noise at 130 dBc/Hz at10 Hz.

The OS560-10 series meets vibration, mechanical, and thermal shock to MIL standard 202F and is fully RoHS compliant. The flexible nature of the design means that specification variations to conform to almost any application can be readily developed to meet individual customer requirements. This includes variants that are compliant with international Stratum 3/3E (per GR1244) standards to suit individual customer requirements.
